Why Every Mama Deserves a Doula
Whenever I share that I’m a doula, the first question I often hear is, “What exactly does a doula do?”
A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to mothers and families before, during, and after childbirth. My role is to walk alongside you—helping you feel informed, cared for, and empowered—so you can have the healthiest and most positive birth experience possible.
Research, including a Cochrane Review of over 15,000 women, shows that continuous support from a doula improves outcomes for both mothers and babies—without any known risks.
Some of the ways doula support can make a difference include:
-
Reduced interventions such as inductions, epidurals, vacuum/forceps deliveries, and C-sections.
-
A calmer, more positive birth experience with continuous support.
-
Lower risk of postpartum depression.
-
Higher breastfeeding success, both starting and continuing.
-
Increased confidence and preparedness for expecting parents.
-
Clearer communication and advocacy with your care team.
-
Gentle postpartum support, from recovery and newborn care to feeding guidance and reassurance.
A doula does not replace your partner, doctor, or midwife—we work alongside them. Think of me as an added layer of care: a steady hand to hold, a calm presence in the room, and a reassuring voice when you need it most.
My heart as a doula is to create an environment where you feel safe, supported, and confident. Every family deserves to be heard, cared for, and encouraged as they welcome new life into the world.
